Grand Cayman Scuba Diving
One-third of all tourists that visit Grand Cayman Island come for the scuba diving, a seemingly impressive statistic until you view what Grand Cayman scuba has to offer. Grand Cayman diving is world-renowned for good reason - clear waters, amazing coral formations, marine life encounters, and even sunken ships are all part of Grand Cayman scuba, features just too hard to pass up for most dive afficionados. Adventurous souls have their choice between several Grand Cayman diving companies, but most tours hit the same famous spots and proffer similar Grand Cayman scuba packages.
The most celebrated site amongst Grand Cayman scuba enthusiasts is the Great Wall, a colorful jumble of Caribbean coral and exotic fish off of the island's north coast. Here, breathtaking underwater vistas rival any found on the shores of Grand Cayman. Diving with stingrays at Stingray City puts a popular twist on Grand Cayman scuba, where stingrays will glide alongside divers (especially those offering food!) without hesitation. For Grand Cayman diving in shallow waters, head to Orange Canyon off the west coast, while Trinity Caves nearby is a great deep-water site complete with canyons.
Divers need to be certified to go on most Grand Cayman scuba excursions, but there are many on-island operators offering certification courses. Expect a full four-day course to cost US$400; one-day introductory lessons, which allow for shallow instructor-monitored Grand Cayman diving, average US$100.
